Skate Park Fund Raising Meeting

I am blogging this live from the fund raising meeting at the community center.

The meeting started with the preparations of the new mailer that will be going out to the community.

Marty Meyers started the meeting with introductions. The first point of discussion was how to get parents involved in the project. The United Way will be matching all donations up to $30,000.00. We have raised approximately $12,600.00 so far. The township of Livingston will be donating $25,000.00. That means that we need to raise an additional $65,000.00.

The donation cans are doing very well. If you see these cans around town please fill them with your change.

Representatives from the Livingston PBA are here talking about their annual golf outing on April 28, 2008. They have generously offered to donate half of the proceeds of the event to the Skate Park fund. We need to help them in this endevour. If you would like to find out how to help please call Ron Barbella at 973-992-3000 ext 2500 or David Fischgrund ext 2406 to help.

The discussion is now covering some of the rules that will be in place for the park. From closing times to who can use the park are all things that the committee will be deciding on.

We are back to the fund raising issue. We are discussing the use of a discount card that we could sell that would give a discount to the card holder from local businesses.

We need the families of the skateboarders to step up and donate their time and money to the project.

Please contact us to see how you can help and get on our mailing list.

Park Location Finalized!

The Livingston Town Council has unanimously approved the location between the Police Department and the West Essex YMCA as the future site for the Livingston SkatePark.

Help us raise funds!

We need YOUR creativity and ideas  to help raise money for the skateboard park. What can YOU do to generate money and awareness? Take some ownership. We need to raise $95K in order to have our park up and running in July 2008.

Moving in the right direction.

I was inspired by the enthusiasm for the youth of Livingston this morning after attending my first HCHY meeting. As a parent of two middle school students I have realized how important it is to help our young people to enjoy these fleeting years as young adults, in a safe environment (in a not so safe world).  It is these brief years between fifth grade and college that do so much to shape them socially. We owe it to them to make sure those experiences are the best they can be.

To that end I have jumped onto the proverbial bandwagon and I have undertaken some of the responsibilities of helping to see that the young adults (and not so young adults) have a fun and safe place to skateboard. I encourage all residents of Livingston to get behind this project and help make this a reality.

We encourage your feedback and comments.
